Pastor Shane Klein has been serving as interim pastor at Vinton First Baptist Church since July 2020. Pastor Shane recently retired from 23 years in the Iowa Army National Guard as a helicopter mechanic and is finishing his seminary degree through Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He also has a B.A. in Music from the University of Northern Iowa. His wife, Sara, is a graduate of UNI as well, and has been a teacher and math coach for the Waterloo Public School District since 2012.
Pastor Shane and Sara grew up in the area and have 2 sons and 2 daughters. Their younger daughter, Cora, and younger son, Sam, are in high school. Their older son, Gabe, lives and works in Omaha, NE, and their older daughter Lizzie is finishing her undergraduate degree at Iowa State University.
Pastor Shane has a deep desire to see God’s Word faithfully preached and taught, and to see God’s people sanctified in its truth. In his free time, you can usually find him reading theology or philosophy, still trying to master the guitar, or just enjoying the company of friends and family in thoughtful conversation.

Pastor/Chaplain John Karrick is part of our leadership team; filling in when needed for pulpit supply and adult Sunday School. John has over 20 years of church leadership and Bible teaching experience having served as a deacon, elder, and a combined 7 years as the pastor of this church. He has been involved in missionary work in the Turkana County of Kenya through SHARE International Inc., having participated in five short term mission trips. His heart is with missions and evangelism. John is currently ministering as an ICPC Certified Police Chaplain with both the Vinton and Cedar Rapids Police Departments. John served in the US Navy Nuclear Submarine Force for over 9 years and has also worked in a Management role at the Duane Arnold Energy Center Nuclear Power Plant. John did not grow up in church but was gloriously saved at the age of 30 when his marriage was at rock bottom. God saved him, then saved his marriage. John has been married to his wife Colleen for 36 years now. They have two children and two grandchildren. Together John and Colleen have a heart for marriage ministry having experienced what God can do to heal a relationship. The two of them have organized numerous “Marriage Foundations” weekends to offer fundamentals, hope, healing, and growth in the marriage relationship.
